H.E. Edward Akwasi Boateng is a Ghanaian politician and astute business executive who has for over three decades, has contributed immensely to the business and political climate of Ghana and the world at large. He has through the instrumentality of his business and political acumen impacted government policies in Ghana and globally, and in recent times revamped bilateral relations between Ghana and China. H.E Edward Boateng was nominated as Ghana’s Ambassador Extraordinaire and Plenipotentiary to the People’s Republic of China in January 2017 by H.E. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana, and served till November 2020.
Prior to his diplomatic appointment, Edward Boateng was the Group CEO of Global Media Alliance (GMA) and a highly respected thought leader on African media and broadcasting. Edward has a good blend of private and public sector experience.
Having held various international business executive portfolios, he established Global Media Alliance in November 1998 and in partnership with other companies/institutions was able to help break new ground for the introduction of channels like e.tv, the first privately owned free to air station in South Africa, eNCA and SABC Africa (the first 24-hour African News channels) as well as African entertainment channels like the Africa Magic channels on DSTV.
He was appointed the Chairman of the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA) from August 2006–December 2008 by President J.A. Kufuor in consultation with the US Government.
He has received several international awards/citations, which include the Order of the Volta (Civilian Division) by the Government of Ghana in 2008, The Turner Award in 1995, The City of Philadelphia also recognized him with the Keys to the city of Philadelphia in 2012 and the New Africa Magazine recognized him as the African Business leader in 2013 for his contribution to Broadcasting and Media development in Africa. He has served on numerous boards in Africa including the Africa Board of World Economic Forum, The Foundation for Journalistic Excellence, National Communication Authority in Ghana, African Business Roundtable etc.
In 1993, he was assigned by CNN together with others to go and assist with the first democratic elections in South Africa. In this role, he worked very closely with the office of the late President Nelson Mandela and the ANC.
Edward worked with The Coca-Cola Company in Atlanta as a Brand Executive.

H.E. Edward Akwasi Boateng was born in Kumasi, attended University Primary School, Prempeh College and KNUST for his primary, secondary and undergraduate studies respectively. He then proceeded to the United States where he studied for his MBA at Clark-Atlanta University and a post graduate diploma at Yale University also in the USA.
Ambassador Edward Boateng was appointed Director-General of the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA) by H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in November 2021, an institution with oversight responsibilities of all government and quasi-government organizations in Ghana. He retired from active public service at the end 2023.
Ambassador Edward Boateng is currently on the drive to shape the next thought and practical leaders of Africa. His penchant for youth development is admired on the African continent.

He is married to Lisa Poku-Boateng with whom he has four (4) children and fellowships at ICGC Church.
